What is "Green"?

What's Old (previous updates)

6/11: A second day in Yellowstone brings us to the more touristy stuff, but it's still cool.
6/10: Feeling pressed for time, OGA drives from Glacier National Park nearly to Yellowstone in one go.
6/10: Much of Glacier National Park was inacessable due to a 60' snowdrift, but we still saw some beautiful sights.
6/8/09: Going to Canada didn't work out very well. That'll teach us for taking unrelated side trips. We did see some beautiful things in British Columbia, though.
6/6/09: In Seattle, we find sustainability for children, the homeless, and the GLBT community. We also continue our trend of no rain or clouds in the Pacific Northwest.
6/3: The Olympic Penninsula is definitely a place apart from the rest of the Northwest. It's like a combination of Alaska and Norway.
5/31: We check out Mt. Saint Helens in Washington State. It's still too snowy to hike up it, but we get a good look and learned its history.
5/30: In Portland, OR, we wandered around and looked at sustainable actions. The city is so green, we barely had to look.
5/29: In this episode, Julia apologizes for the total idiot she has been about blogging for the last three months. Will the readers accept it? Find out next time on Our Green America.
5/27: In Eugene, we visit our friends Liz and Aaron and check out their green community.
5/23/09: At Mountain Homestead, an intentional community, they have a logging business. And they do it sustainably.
5/22: We check out the rainforests of Northern California as we continue up the coast.
5/21/09: Deep in the heart of Sebastapol, CA, we search out the Tumbleweed Tiny Houses company.
5/20: After an inordinate amount of searching, we found sustainability in San Francisco. While we were there, we also ran into seven friends. It was nice to have a local community again.
5/13/09: SMOE, San Mateo Outdoor Education, teaches youths about respect for nature and environmentally sound practices. Plus, it's located in the middle of the redwood forest.
5/12: We now have ads on the homepage through Google's AdSense. We're hoping to earn a little revenue for OGA as people click through. Do you think this is a bad idea? Let us know at info@ourgreenamerica.org.
5/11: The CA central coast is wild, rocky, and beautiful. There's a great balance between human settlement and natural areas, especially with Los Padres National Forest stretching its entire length.
5/9: There may be hope for LA yet. Between the river rehabilitation, tree planting, and commune building going on, Los Angeles is taking steps to learn to sustain itself.
5/6: San Diego may be a bit behind the curve with sustainability, but it's getting there. Besides, it makes up for it with charm and good looks.
5/2: We visit Arcosanti, a city in progress in central Arizona. Designed by Paolo Soleri based on his "arcology" model, Arcosanti is right now a construction site, education facility, and town all in one.
5/1: It's been over two months, so it's time to count again! Check out how far we've been and other fun things to count.
4/24-25: Zion is green even though it's red. We hiked up a canyon until we hit snowpack and kept going until we couldn't.
4/25/09: We visit Arches National Park and walk in the Footsteps of Edward Abbey. He'd be happy: there's still no loop road, and we didn't see any of those tissue flowers he talked about.
4/22: In Boulder, we checked out CU's green initiatives and Nyland co-housing project.
4/19: We finally have content in our "What is Green?" section! Take a look at what we think "Green" means, and contribute ideas yourself.
4/18: New Belgium Brewery is dedicated to sustainability, bikes, and beer.
4/18/09: In Denver, we stayed at Villa Villakula, a group house where our friend Ariel lives. We got involved in Food not Bombs and took a look at some other projects in the city.
4/15/09: On the way from Taos to Denver, we stop by Great Sand Dunes National Park, which was covered in snow (to our surprise).
4/14: In Taos, NM, we volunteer at Earthship Biotecture, throwing mud at walls.
4/12: Check out our "Updating, Locating" section on the home page to find out where we are right now (more or less). We can't put up blogs and galleries in real time, but now you can at least know where we are!
4/11: We visit Ecoversity, which holds classes focused on intensive urban sustainable practices.
4/11: Santa Fe is full of art and sustainability. We check out a revitalized railyard, a sustainably-focused community, and architecture in the city.
4/7: On John's birthday, we journey deep into the earth in Carlsbad, NM and find a gift shop (among other things).
4/5/09: We journey to Big Bend National Park, in the heart of west Texas where there's one radio station (if you're lucky).
3/31: The Rhizome Collective, a very successful urban intentional community, has been evicted, but the community will live on.
3/28-4/1: In Ausitn, we visited with groups who are trying to create a sustainable semi-urban environment, as well as perserve the Austin's natural resources.
03/25: OGA is back on track! We have won our battle with the internet, and are currently in Houston regrouping. Look for a backlog of "what's new" items appearing over the next week.
3/23: We meet some friends in New Orleans and look at how the community has come together in response to disaster.
3/18-19: Deborah Stewart-Kent tells us about the Florida trail and we go take a look at where it runs through Osceola National Forest.
3/18: We surmount reservation and transportation difficulties and visit Cayo Costa State Park on the gulf coast.
3/16: An unexpected detour takes us to Big Cypress, the north end of the Everglades.
3/12: We head south until we can't anymore and check out the Florida Keys.
3/11: Read an update on how far we've been and other fun things to count.
3/9/09: OGA flees the cold that's been following us down the coast and ventures into the Everglades.
3/6/09: In a sudden detour, we check out the Hostel in the Forest outside Brunswick, GA.
3/5/09: After a long drive from Kingston, we check out the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta and continue on to Savannah.
3/3/09: We visit Asheville, NC, where we discover the kindness of stranges, and Kingston, TN, where we discover the treachery of Big Coal.
2/26: Our second big stop is Acorn, an income sharing intentional community in central Virginia.
2/22: While staying at St. Mary's College, we check out some of their sustainability programs.
