7/17/09: They moved fast with the surgery, so only two days later Julia had a titanium plate and 10 screws in her wrist. Some of the screws go all the way through because they have to hold on to both sides of the bone. They're called trans-cortical screws, and without them the plate wouldn't lie flat. They couldn't do that at the top, so they put one in at an angle to form a wedge. The plate will stay in her forever, unless her body rejects it.
