3/17/09: These trees were charred in a recent fire. Fire is a natural process in most Floridian ecosystems, clearing underbrush and aiding some plants in their lifecycle. However, some burns that are started by people or natural processes can get out of control and devistate a fragile ecosystem like the one on Cayo Costa.
