Beginning February 2009, we embarked on a five-month road trip throughout the United States to discover what makes up Our Green America. | ||||||||||
From wind farms to oyster farms, freegans to fuel cell technology, our journey encompasses the many facets of the movement toward a green culture. We are exploring this transformation by observing, experiencing, and questioning the various sustainability efforts we encounter. By volunteering, whether it is to tend a garden, maintain a trail, or construct a house, we work alongside individuals, organizations, and communities dedicated to green causes. We are also visiting the natural areas that make up our country's vast environmental resources. Over time, we have come to focus mainly on accessible sustainability. The actions we have seen and experienced are preformed by normal people, frequently without any special training. They show that sustainability isn't a fantasy, it's an attainable goal. We hope that these people can inspire you to see how green fits into your life. Our route was pre-planned, but with room for flexibility. During this trip, our path has been altered and improved by new ideas we recieved both through our road experiences and reader contributions on our website. With our website, ourgreenamerica.org, we share our adventures and discoveries, encouraging and promoting sustainability in its many forms. Julia Braun |
